Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Nerophinae
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, amphidromous
Distribution:  Asia: India and Bangladesh.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in rivers, streams and lakes among aquatic plants (Ref. 41236). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 08 July 2016 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from Northern Bengal. Found in Rangapani khal, about 6.5 km north north-west of Jaintiapur, Sylhet Shillong. Also Ref. 4833, 41236.
