Steinernema kraussei Beneficial Nematodes (aka Nemasys L)
Target pests: Black vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus)
Description: Nemasys L beneficial nematodes (Steinernema kraussei) are active at lower temperatures than other commercially available species (40°F vs 55°F for other species). This allows them to be active at the same time as black vine weevil larvae are present in the soil. Nemasys L beneficial nematodes (Steinernema kraussei) are mixed with water to apply to the target area. Once in the soil, Steinernema kraussei actively searches for hosts, and releases symbiotic bacteria upon entering a black vine weevil larval host body. Reproduction occurs inside the host (which kills the host) and a new generation of infective juveniles is released into the soil.
Use as Biological Control: Hosts for black vine weevil include asters, azaleas, caneberries, Cyclamen, Euonymus, grape, some Ilex species (holly), Hosta, Rhododendron, strawberry, Tsuga (hemlock), and yew, among many others.
For Best Results: Use Steinernema kraussei beneficial nematodes twice a year, in early fall and spring. Treat all susceptible crops at the same time.
Introduction Rates: One tray of 250 million treats 5,000 square feet.
