Datura discolor is a herbaceous annual in the Solanaceae family. It is also called the desert thorn-apple. A native to the Sonoran Desert of western North America. All parts of the plant contain a mix of alkaloids that are lethal when enough is ingested. The plant is an upright, low-lying shrub that can grow to 3 feet tall and wide. The foliage is light green, while the stalks have purple stripes. The leaves, which are ovate-shaped, can be whole or toothed. This Datura has the largest flower of all Daturas, reaching 6 to 7 inches across. A sun-loving plant that can grow under overhangs where its flowers can be protected from wind and rain.

Germination

Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
