In this week’s episode of “You Should Know,” Billboard is getting to know Swedish pop singer and former Swedish Idol contestant Tove Styrke (pronounced “Tu-va Stier-ka”).
Styrke, who came in third place on the reality singing competition in 2009, reveals that she was asked to appear on the show and she decided to give it a try. “Being on a show like that was pretty special because I was so young,” Styrke tells Billboard. “I was just 16 when I was on there…but it was fun. I got a record deal out of it and I ended up working with really good people that I still work with and like. So, it like turned out pretty great for me.”
The “Say My Name” singer also opens up about touring with both Lorde, calling her time on the road with her one of the best things she has ever done in her life. “I had so much fun,” she says, adding that her drive grew “so much more” after that.
Asked who she would love to collaborate with, Styrke names Doja Cat, explaining that she is obsessed with “Mooo!” and she sings it all the time.
Styrke discusses her admiration for Post Malone as well, noting that what inspires her most when it comes to music is when someone makes something that “feels different.”
“When Post Malone came around, I was obsessed with him because it was a mix of so many things,” Styrke explains. “He feels kinda country and still there is the trap thing going on and then there’s a chord progression that’s like, where did this come from? Anybody who does things like that, that really inspires me.”
