This Lower East Side gallery is not necessarily where you’d expect to see such a wonderful show of work by this Japanese-American architect-turned-furniture designer, famous for his expansive, rough-edged wood tables and “straight” chairs (still in production by Knoll). Here Nakashima’s pieces are “in conversation” (the title of the exhibition) with work by other artists, most notably Matthew Chambers’s monochromatic teal paintings, Roger Herman’s anthropomorphic ceramic vases and bowls, and Phil Wagner’s Cubistic mixed-media collages.
