    Hi guys,

I've always like the royal pleco and there are so many different types. Tried a couple of them and gave up.

Juvenile specimens taken at quix's house in 2004. They can group up to 45 cm long!!

These fellas eat driftwood and they eat a lot!! This also means that they shi*t a lot!! Without effective filtration, it's going to be a killer to maintain them. Besides, they love any type of Echindoras too! Makes quick meals of them everytime.

Anyone else also into these beauties?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

never tried them, when they're young they look cute, but ive also seen the big ones and they are damn ugly looking.
a friend told me they are one of the few fish that eat black algae, the only other fish i know to do that is a barb? it's all down to preferences though.

Yup. They certainly look cute when young. And I will also agree that it's not one of those fish can most people can love when they are about 1.5 ft long. They look like monsters! But they sure fetch a premium on price man! I don't suppose such large specimens are common over at your patch, even at Pier Aquatics?

As for eating algae, I'm not too sure about that. But ideal water conditions with lot pH is not really that condusive for algae growth anyway. But I do know that they try to eat just about all plant and wood for sure!

    Cheers,

it's pier where ive seen them and yes they're a decent price here as well, small ones 60cm are roughly S$60, large ones over a S$1000,
last one i saw was at pier he's the only shop to bring them in that size.
    they're still ugly buggers.
