Vesicularia Dubyana is another very popular and undemanding aquarium moss. Good beginner plant, it can be cultivated in almost any kind of water. Also known as Java Moss, this plant has a deep green color with tiny leaves. Java Moss is intensively branched with lots of tiny stems surrounded by rhizoids and leaves. The rhizoids are used by the moss to attach itself to substrates. Vesicularia Dubyana do not have any role in nutrient absorption. Because it has not roots, Vesicularia Dubyana should not be buried in gravel. Cultivation of this plant should be done by spreading a thin layer of Java Moss on top of a solid substrate as a rock or a piece of root. This can be done by attaching it to the substrate with a thin fishing line or a cotton thread. Although it does not require strong lighting, it should be spread equally so every stems have access to the light. After a few months, it will anchor itself to its substrate and the fishing line could be removed. Some hobbyists have experienced good success in letting Java Moss float at the surface of the aquarium or in stapling it to a piece of driftwood. Almost any substrate can be used for Java Moss to attach to (even the aquarium glass!). This plant can be grown submerged or emersed. In the wild, Vesicularia Dubyana grows on the trees and stones of the very humid region of Southeast Asia.

The price is very good, so what I did was I bought seven packages and the shipping cost wasn't too bad. However, the moss was brown. It also came in a big glop of pieces rather than as a continuous plant. A little bit of green in there as you can see in the photo. After one day this is the result. The green is perking up a little bit and hopefully it will survive. I bought it to ensure my neocaridina shrimp breeding.

You would expect more than just the tiny little amount that you get for the money that you pay!

It’s really kind of pathetic. And the packaging was not all that great obviously because it was pretty dry so there’s been a lot of melting

I have no idea what a bit of this kind of weed should cost but if it grows well it will do what I bought it for. I was afraid that they would be very small in my 55 gallon aquarium so I ordered two. Could have gotten one as it is a lot of loose pieces and easily split. They arrived in 5 days and were actually a decent size. I loosely attached them with thread to some waterlogged cholla wood pieces. No snails that I could see. Decent and looks good.

beautiful green moss. I will buy from this store again!!
Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2021
I ordered 2 bunches of Java moss, and I am very pleased with my order. I received two nice portions of bright green, healthy looking moss. (see photo)

I almost gave this a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars for the following reasons. 1) My order wasn't shipped until 7 days after I placed the order, and It took another week to arrive at my house. 2) There were 3 tiny hitch hiker snails in the moss.

So why did I decide on a 5 star rating? In spite of having to wait two weeks to receive my order, I am absolutely delighted with the quantity and quality of the moss I received. As for the snails -- or hitch hikers of any sort -- unless one orders plants grown from tissue culture, one should always expect hitch hikers and treat the plant accordingly before placing the plant in an aquarium. (Hydrogen peroxide dip works wonders for Java moss.) I don't fault the vendor for the less than 1 mm tiny snails hiding in the moss.

Would I buy from this vendor again? Absolutely.
