Claude Oscar Monet (1840–1926) was an important French painter of the Impressionist period. He uses the technique of colour patches to capture nature or reflections of the water surface, thus recording the atmosphere of the moment. The main motifs in his work are water surfaces, water lilies, poplars or cathedrals. Monet achieved recognition in the late 1880's and died as famous and wealthy artist.
