Hi all this time I´m gonna talk about a diferent kind of fish, one of the smallest and less agressive snakeheads , the channa bleheri also know for Rainbow Snakehead or Channa Sp. Assam.
The Channa is a fish that lives on the river Assam in Asia and so I´m gonna give some tips of how to care them, I have a couple on a 80x35x40 cm aquarium, it could be larger but I have only them in the tank, and I´m trying to make them breed 🙂
Start by allowing your tank to settle, even if you already had it cicled first place the enviroment, well, really well planted tank, anubias , moss and do not forget some pvc tunnels or caves for them to hide, and after this let the tank one weak at least without the fish.
A common mistake of owners is that they let the channas with fishes like bichirs and knife or even catfish and let them with warmer temperatures like 25º to 28º, ok this is wrong it may not kill her but will make her more weaker and prehaps more suceptible to deseases, why? because da channas are subtropical fish , wich means that you will have them all year with 18º or 19º and only in the hot days of summer you will let her have the 22º or 23º, this is very important cause they are very sensitive to getting skin ruptures, red patches or even ulcers upon arrival in the tank .
Remember to have the water old, and tanned , for that you can use almond or cattapa leaves, this combined with driftwood and the water of your tank already cicled will make an excelent tank for your channas.
I thing that most of you will not agree with me is that the channa does not need filtering of any type, I have known of people that even dont use any filter on the tank but I let on mine a small sponge filter that barely moves the water, with the time passing you might whant to add a mid range filter to better watering but on inicial stages just leave it be 🙂
Leave it like this for 2 mounths maximum three, and you can start to use a more clear water but never a complete cristaline water.
On the food I give them blood worms , some times i dissolve flakes with it or some pleco food al toguether, I do not like to give them other fishes to eat , like neons or small goldfish, just my hearth speaking loud ;P
If you want to see them fully natural I advise to keep them on single species aquarium, there ar some people who can , but I cannot sex them , just add a small pack of them and let a pair form and then remove the others.
If you whant to place them on community perhaps one ancistrus temminki, a pack of tiger barbs or a trio of bala sharks, thus on my opinion keep them alone and enjoy
Hope this might help anyone of you, and if I have wrote something bad please , we are all learners 🙂
