Yet, critique and a career-long discourse around his output as a “rapper” has been ever-present.

And, in a new interview, Mos Def makes clear how he categorizes Drizzy.

Speaking on The Cutting Room Floor podcast, Mos Def (who now goes by Yasiin Bey) offered up the following when quizzed about Drake:

“Drake is Pop to me. In the sense like, if I was in Target in Houston, and I heard a Drake song… It feels like a lot of his music is compatible with shopping.”
