How It Happened

Murillo got to first safely on his first at bat thanks to a throwing error from the third baseman. He advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored when Justin Johnson doubled to left field. With bases loaded, Sugden drew an RBI walk to give the Gators a 2-0 lead after one. A two-run homer in the third by the Cougars tied the game at two all. Singles up the middle from Cole Thompson and Daniel Santos plated runners in the fourth to give the Gators the two-run lead at 4-2 in the fourth. Johnson hit a lead-off homer in the top of the seventh add another run for the Gators. APU came back within one with a Sac-fly in bottom of the seventh. Murillo scored off a throwing error in the eighth to give the Gators an insurance run to lead 6-3. The Cougars had a pair of runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the eighth. The Gators turned a key double play to leave a runner on third and caught a fly out to shut the Cougars out in the inning. APU hit a lead-off single and drew a hit by pitch with one out in the ninth but the Gators retired the next to batters to claim victory.
