During The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St. sessions Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones Records head Marshall Chess, packaging designer John Van Hamersveld, and photographer Norman Seeff brainstormed ideas. Richards, donning mirrored shades and a red shirt, suggested using Seeff’s photos for postcards. The album, considered a rock masterpiece, was created in the South of France amidst a whirlwind of activity. Musically, the album was finalized at Hollywood’s Sunset Sound, with backing vocal sessions featuring Venetta Fields, Clydie King, and Sherlie Matthews adding a soulful touch. Al Perkins, recording pedal-steel parts, recalls Mick Jagger singing live during the session, which created a unique atmosphere.
