Black and Decker (or Black & Decker, or even Black + Decker) has been around since 1910, making power tools, garden tools, and other bits for the DIY enthusiast. I’m not much for DIY, I prefer PSTDIFY – Pay Someone To Do It For You – but I know most everything there is to know about charging B ‘n’ D gear.
So if you’ve lost your drill charger and are confused about what power adaptor you need to get, read on!
Battery Voltage
All Black + Decker drills have a voltage written on the label. Here’s the EPC12 drill, you can see it says “12V” on the label on the side:

So you’d think it needs a charger that outputs 12V, right? Actually – it doesn’t. The “12V” refers to the voltage of the battery itself, but not the voltage the battery needs to actually charge.
Here’s a photo of the official Black and Decker replacement charger, you can see it outputs 15.3V .

The 12V battery of the EPC12 actually needs from 14V to 16V to adequately charge. Anything less, like 12V, and the battery won’t charge. Here’s the replacement PSU for the EPC12 on the myVolts website – we find a 14V power adaptor gives the best result for charging a Black and Decker drill with a 12V battery.

So I got two chargers for 12v battery for drill and it says on charger output 15v but when I measure it it shows one 17.5v the other one 19.5v
Those are the old chargers big and heavy , does it adapt on its own somehow to charge 12v batteries? Also I just bought a replacement battery which is NiMH can this be still charged with same charger?
