Pethia nigrofasciata “Black Ruby Barb”

A classic aquarium fish, the Black Ruby Barb used to be known as Puntius nigrofasciatus but was broken out to a new genus as Pethia nigrofasciata in 2012. Ironically, despite being something we might consider a bread and butter fish, I’d never had it in the shops I worked at decades ago, and in fact it’s not necessarily always available (nothing like the multiple forms of Tiger Barbs). I’m keeping these in a large holding tank with many other Barbs, where they do very well; there’s no shortage of activity in the tank. That said, they appear to be quite agreeable and peaceful.
