ESPER's V-MAX

The 580ps and torque of 40kg-m are not the kind of figures you would expect to find in a motorcycle. This is the Yamaha VMAX Custom by ESPER. Many of you may think that this custom Yamaha VMAX would have some crazy parts, but the answer from the builder is quite simple.

The engine internals have been replaced with CARILLO connecting rods, low-compression pistons for the turbo, ESPER original head gaskets, and port polishing. All the other internal parts are treated with WPC (Wonder Process Craft). The shaft drive has been replaced with chain. That’s about it for the custom except for the turbo. Such unusual figure 580ps is not produced by mechanical tuning, but a turbo system. The NOS bottle is installed on the left not for the boost, but for the air shifter. It also helps the bike keep its weight balance turbine on the right. The stock V-MAX for Japanese market has 151ps (200ps for export model). but even based on 200ps, Even with the export 200ps model, this V-MAX’s power boasts nearly three times. The most surprised thing is the durability of the engine itself. The engine is forced to output power about three times as much as the stock engine, however, it can endure. After a riding test, stud bolts were not stretched, and only the gasket on the right rear cylinder had fallen out. The frame must be one of the main factors because it surrounds the engine firmly, including the cylinder head. The torque is such that the tires are off the wheels on the chassis dynamometer, but the control itself is still possible. The chassis is almost stock except for the longer swingarm.

The cockpit area is also based on the stock, and to the left of the stock gauges in the center of the cockpit is a Trust GReedy boost controller, Profec.

The left and right master cylinders are Brembo radials, and a steering damper has been adopted as a lever damper(?) to the left of the handlebar.

Bodyworks

Upon closer inspection, the bikini cowl is the only thing that is noticeable, and the appearance is also recognizable as a stock late-model (2008-2017, 1700cc version).

The tank cover is stock and blue painted. Pipes leading to the intercooler can be seen in the air scoop section.

The seat, side covers, and tail cowl are also stock. The blinkers have been relocated from the rear fender to the side of the tail cowl.

Engine

The left and right intercoolers, which cool the supercharged intake air to improve filling efficiency, have small-diameter piping for an upper limit of 580ps, and change to a larger diameter will allow even more horsepower.

Chassis

An air shifter (made by Pingel), a drag racing staple, is installed. The NOS bottle on the rear left is used when drag racing.

The bike has 17-inch front and rear wheels with 6-spoke aluminum (3.50-17/6.00-17 size). The front has a Brock's Performance lowering kit to lower the riding height for drag racing. The 6-piston calipers are remained to be stock, and the PLUSμ brake discs have been replaced with.

The swingarm is brought from other motorcycle and has been lengthened. In the drive system, drive shaft was replaced with a 530 drive chain.

Intake & Exhaust

ESPER_VMAX_13.jpg

A larger turbine unit is placed where the silencer would normally be. The optimal unit for the displacement and power targets was found, and it functioned properly to achieve 580ps (boost: 2 kg/cm2). Here, fresh air is supercharged and circulated to the intercoolers on both side of the front of the engine. The exhaust used for supercharging is discharged from under the turbine unit, but the energy is dampened and still quiet. Rear brake caliper is produced by Beringer.
