IUPUI SOFTBALL DROPS TWO IN DAY TWO OF BLUES CITY CLASSIC

Jags record 14 hits in both games combined

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The IUPUI softball team fell to Memphis and UT-Martin in day two of the Blues City Classic. The Tigers defeated the Jags in game one of the day, 9-4 and the Skyhawks took down the Jags in five innings, 16-6.

In game one, IUPUI pitching gave up nine runs (one unearned) on ten hits. Memphis jumped on the board first with six runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits and one error. The Jags fought back in the top of the third frame with two runs of their own, 6-2. Ashley Shelton singled to right field to score Kendal Calvert and Victoria Sivert.
 
The Tigers scored two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 8-2. IUPUI doubled their score with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to bring themselves within striking distance at 8-4. Hailey Pop singled to left field and later scored on an error by the Memphis catcher. Mackenzie Myars then singled to left field to score Jaida Speth.
 
Memphis scored one more run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth frame to seal the lead at 9-4. Shelton went 1-for-2 with two RBI while Pop, Myars and Sivert also recorded hits in the loss. Madison Bryant took the loss giving up six runs (one unearned) on three hits with three strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Jags fell to UT-Martin, 16-6 in five innings. The Skyhawks scored ten runs on six hits, including a grand slam from Kallie Pickens in the top of the second inning. They added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning with four runs on three hits, 14-0.
 
IUPUI got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with six runs on seven hits. Maicey Bedrick led the inning off with a double to right field then Pop walked to put runners on first and second. Jaylin Calvert doubled down the left field line to score both Bedrick and Pop. Myars hit an RBI single up the middle then Kendal Calvert singled to score pinch runner Lauren Youngblood. Sivert singled to right field to score Rachael Gregory and then Kendal Calvert scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 14-6.
 
The Skyhawks scored two more runs in the top of the fifth frame to seal the score at 16-6. IUPUI recorded ten hits in the loss. Kendal Calvert went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Gregory went 2-for-2 with one run while Morgan Gilbert, Sivert, Bedrick, Jaylin Calvert and Myars also recorded hits. Carly Metcalf took the loss on the mound for the Jags giving up 16 runs on 13 hits and six walks.
 
The Jags close out the weekend tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM ET against Butler.
