Munsey and Boda spent their 5th Bear-thday enjoying meat/blood frozen ice cakes, unwrapping their cardboard birthday boxes filled with fresh fish and other bear-lightful yummy foods hidden in construction themed decorations placed all around the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Habitat Exhibit on Saturday, Feb 22nd, 2020.
There were over 150 zoo guests that attended the bear-thday celebration and the Wildwood Zoo Staff and volunteers worked for many hours preparing for the event and setting up the decorations and interactive educational activity center. Zoo guests brought Munsey and Boda many wonderful Birthday treats that the boys could enjoy over the next few weeks and throughout the years.
I had been informed that Munsey and Boda would stop climbing tree’s when they reached 12 months of age. Well, I can tell you that this isn’t the case with Munsey and Boda!
This is Munsey climbing a fairly small tree on June 26th, 2018! In August Munsey and Boda will be 3 1/2 years old and they are still climbing trees!
Munsey is about 820 lbs at this time. It’s hard to believe that a bear can manage to move that amount of weight right up a tree!
As you can see, this tree isn’t very large and I know that I’d heard a number of branches cracking as Munsey began to desend back to Earth!
It takes careful footing for Munsey to figure out where to place his weight as he makes his downward journey to the ground.
Munsey and Boda must have a craving for those tender new leaves growing on the trees because the boys are once again climbing to great heights to get a nibble on the second full day of Spring.
This is a photograph of Boda , as he straddles on a relatively small tree branch. Boda now weighs 840 pounds and still manages to mobilize all that weight 30 plus feet up the tree!
Munsey’s weight is 760 pounds. While I was observing the bears today Munsey didn’t climb much more than three feet up the tree trunk. This isn’t unusual for Munsey, he’s always had a tenancy to not climb as high up into the tree tops as his brother Boda.
If your interested in stopping to visit Munsey and Boda and hope to see them tree climbing then stop in and visit them at the Marshfield Wildwood Zoo in by around 10:00 -11:00 am.
I can’t believe that it’s going to be my second year as a member of the NORTHWOODS Art Studio Organization! The art studio has come a long way over the past few years! I’m always excited about answering questions a guest might have while visiting the studio! There’s a story to share behind almost every piece of artwork I’ve created in the studio!
On Tuesday October 18th, Munsey and Boda had a grand time playing with a fire hose that was given to them by the Wildwood Zoo staff. The cubs swam in the deep pool area that is located in the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Habitat area. I was amazed as Munsey demonstrated his ability to swim in the 13 feet of water for over 30 minutes, while attempting to retrieve a section of the fire hose that had sunk to the bottom of the pool.
In the photograph below, Munsey is swimming with the fire hose that retrieved from the bottom of the pool.
The second section of the fire hose also sank to the bottom of the pool and to my surprise Munsey was able to retrieve that second section of hose. From my observation it appears that Munsey was learning to hold his breath a little longer with every attempt he made as he submerged his face into the water. It will be interesting to see if he masters this skill in the future.
Some of the staff from the Baraboo Zoo stopped in to learn more about the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit, and view the Floyd & Pat Hammus Bear Bridge and the Bear Woods.
If your planning a trip to visit Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield and want to see the cubs in action, I’d recommend that you come between 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The cubs have their breakfast around 9:00-9:30 am, afterwards the zoo staff will usually hide some fruit and vegetable snacks for the cubs to find. It’s always fun to watch the cubs go on a scavenger hunt for their snacks!
The cubs are served their lunch around 12:30-1:00 pm. After lunch the bear door is unlocked and the bears can go in and out as they wish, which means they could choose to take an afternoon nap inside the bear building. (If you find them napping, remember they are only 20-21 months old and they need their rest because they’re still growing. The cubs are now about 410 and 433 pounds, the cubs are considered mature at around five years of age.)
The tall center door located in the JP Adler Kodiak Bear Exhibit is designed specifically for Munsey and Boda. This door gives the cubs the ability to enter and exit the bear building. This door is also unlocked on the weekends.
Steve Burns (head zookeeper at Wildwood Zoo) brings a pail of fruit to the observation window and requests a little girl to assist him by ringing a cow bell.
During your visit please remember to donate a few dollars to help support the Zoo. You can find the collection canisters stationed at each of the zoo entrances.
The public is invited to journey through the colorful north woods and stop in at the many art studios and art gallery’s along the way.

Leap of Faith is a series of artwork created to honor those families that have a child with autism. The Leap of Faith series was inspired by my daughter who is a line a therapist for autistic children. The artwork in this series is sold as originals, reproduction prints, coasters, a deck of playing cards, greeting cards and as a journal (lined pages).

My artwork reflects a blend of my Chicago attitude, energy and perspective, sprinkled with a touch of the north woods flavor.
My artistic abilities range from Intaglio printmaking, charcoal drawing, paper sculptures, assemblages, photography, collage, textile design and lamp-working.
This composition is one of 10 new collages created to address autism. The series is titled “Leap of Faith” Each original collage is comprised from fragments of artwork that were created as paintings and original prints. Through cutting, punching, burning and/or tearing processes, I’ve altered former pieces of artwork into a new composition.
“Leap of Faith” is also offered in the following formats: notebooks, deck of playing cards, greeting cards and coasters.

Gallery 450 hosted it’s 15th student art exhibition which offers the viewer an amazing array of work created by the students who have been enrolled in art courses during the Fall and Spring Semesters of 2012-2013. This exhibition displays our students’ ability to work hard, think critically and be open to new ideas. Creative people are often seen as a being in a a class by themselves-as people with certain “gifts” that the rest of us don’t seem to have. Yet most scientists agree creativity has little to do with talent or skill. Among the traits that creative people have is strong interest in finding and framing unusual problems. In addition there is the ability to take risks-creative peopl function on the edge of their competence; the motivation is not grades, money, or recognition, but simply the desire to learn.
The Art Discipline at UW- Marshfield Campus embraces the many possible forms and functions of art. The images on this video represent the Introduction to Drawing Course and 2-D Course offered at the UW Marshfield / Wood County Campus during the first semester of course study in the Fall of 2012.
The art program strives to create an environment that encourages students to take risks and experiment with subject matter, concept, process and creative outcome.
