Native to Australia, Viola hederaceae is a fast-growing, evergreen, mat-forming, ground cover plant deserving of a place in every garden. Throughout the summer months, it produces an abundance of striking and unusual purple and white flowers, held high above the leaves on tall, sturdy stems. This delicate yet tenacious plant is an ideal choice for underplanting deciduous shrubs, using at the front of a border, spilling over a path edge, or filling a container. Flowers are edible (suitable for use as a garnish or in a salad), as well as being of high value to pollinators. This vigorous, low maintenance gem is an elegant and attractive year-round solution to covering bare patches of soil. One of our current favourite plants. Viola hederacea prefers to be planted in fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil which benefits from partial shade. A hardy, semi-evergreen perennial which reaches a height and spread of 30cm.
