Hey guys, just wondering if there is a female Cichlasoma Ornatum out there. Recently I acquired the Male show Cichlasoma Ornatum from Mark, and I'm interested in breeding him. Anyone out there?

Too bad I didnt know this 4 months ago lol, I sold all of my South Americans + Africans for more discus room.Try Jeff Rapps Tangled up in Cichlids he gets some BEAUTIFUL stock and his prices are very reasonable.

Mark has small ones listed in his sponsor section but I haven't seen any vendors with adults for sale.

No one has bred these fish in captivity yet. Mel came close but I don't think he ever got fry. Here's his video:

Ok thx, I really want to take a shot at breeding my male, so I was just looking around, I might just have to start with some babies and wait a few years till they are adults.... Thx again.

They are one of the hardest cichlid to breed from all of the research and questions I have asked some of the experts out there. I have only known of a few cases where somebody was successful, and it took more than just introducing a pair together. You will need a group, and on the perfect day at the perfect moment when all of the stars line up, along with other things, maybe, just maybe...
