Location: Ozark, Mo. (Ozark Mountain Sports Complex)

OZARK, Mo. – Valor Baseball concluded their regular season on Thursday (Apr. 25) afternoon on a cold and dreary day in the Ozarks, looking to take another win over the nationally ranked Bluejays of Tabor College.

After both teams scored a run in the first inning of play, play was halted for over four hours due to weather. After the delay, both teams worked quickly to get through the game, as the Valor kept the game close, but ultimately fell after a late run in the ninth inning, 4-3, to conclude their 2024 regular season.

NOTABLE

  • Taylor McLeod and Riley Mitchell both led the Valor with a pair of hits on Thursday.

  • Evangel concluded their regular season with a 23-24 mark.

  • The Valor defense held the high octane Tabor offense (2nd in nation in BA) to just a .242 batting average this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tabor scored a run to open the first inning but the Valor were able to respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the same inning. Riley Mitchell singled, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a sacrifice fly from Levi Loughridge to tie the game up, 1-1.

  • After a four hour rain delay, play resumed and once again, both teams scored a run in the second inning. Carson Sturdefant doubled down the right field line, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a fielders choice to make it a 2-2 ballgame.

  • Tabor took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, scoring a run on a pair of base hits.

  • After several scoreless innings, the Valor were able to tie the game up in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Eli Cook hit a solo blast over the tall right field wall to make it a 3-3 ballgame.

  • Tabor used a walk, sacrifice bunt, and took advantage of a Valor error to plate their fourth run of the afternoon in the top of the ninth, taking a 4-3 lead over EU.

  • The Valor put a pair of runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning, but were unable to push across the runner from second, falling in the seven hour ballgame, 4-3.
