1954 Caproni NSU Max 250

This 1954 Caproni Max 250 is finished in blue and powered by a 247cc NSU four-stroke single paired with a four-speed transmission. Equipment includes a headlight and a taillight, six-volt electrics, steel fenders, 16″ wire-spoke wheels, and a stepped two-up seat. The seller acquired the bike in 2015, reportedly following a refurbishment that was performed in Italy. The shocks have been replaced and the seat reupholstered under current ownership. Work within the last year included an oil change and replacement of the front brake shoes. This Max 250 is offered with its 1954 Italian registration book, removed shocks and handlebar, and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name.

The fuel tank, fenders, side panels, fork uppers, and chain guard are finished in metallic blue, and a chrome emblem is fastened to each side of the tank. Features include a steel double-cradle frame, a headlight and a taillight, a rear fender-mounted storage cylinder, and a reupholstered two-up seat finished with rivets around the base.

Wire-spoke 16″ wheels feature chrome steel rims and wear Pirelli Mandrake MT15 tires with cracked sidewalls. Suspension components include a telescopic fork with aluminum sliders and rubber accordion gaiters as well as twin replacement shocks mounted to the swingarm. Braking is supplied by drums at both ends, and the front shoes have been replaced within the last year.

The chrome handlebar is fitted with welded-on lever brackets and features white grips, Tommaselli Super Pratic secondary levers, a horn button, a high/low light switch, and a single bar-end mirror on the left. No instrumentation is present, though the seller estimates having ridden approximately 500 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The NSU 247cc four-stroke OHC single was factory rated at 17 horsepower and features a chrome exhaust system capped with a bullet-style silencer. An oil change was performed within the last year.
