The Martians from ‘Mars Attacks!’ Appear in Walmart’s Sci-fi Super Bowl Commercial!

For their Super Bowl commercial this year, Walmart has brought together a handful of icons from the world of sci-fi, using them to promote their “out of this world convenience.”

The 60-second commercial is titled “Famous Visitors,” and it features appearances from the lovable martians from Mars Attacks!, along with characters from Star Wars, Men in Black, and Arrival. Ahead of this year’s Bill & Ted Face the Music, Alex Winter even pops up as Bill S. Preston, appearing on screen alongside, well, a younger version of himself!

If Mountain Dew hadn’t cast Bryan Cranston as Jack Torrance in a commercial recreating an iconic moment from The Shining, we’d say *this* was the Super Bowl commercial to beat.

Alas, they did. But this one’s pretty great too!

UPDATE: The commercial’s extended cut has been added below.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse fans are being treated to a new video game adaptation, courtesy of developer Different Tales (who developed Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest) and Paradox Interactive. Coming to Steam in Q3 2024, Werewolf: The Apocalypse — Purgatory is a blend of fantasy thriller, visual novel, and tabletop RPG set in the World of Darkness universe.

Purgatory follows Samira, an Afghan werewolf and refugee. Players will follow her path of darkness as she flees her motherland and gets struck by a life-changing tragedy. Play in a world where evil comes in both human and supernatural shapes, and investigate the horrifying secrets hidden across the city of Warsaw. Will Samira sink into despair, overwhelmed by the tragedies of her past? Or will she give in to her rage and fight for a better future?

Drawing inspiration from its predecessor, Heart of the Forest, Purgatory continues the saga with familiar faces from the Bialowieza forest alongside a new protagonist, characters, and landmarks of Poland. Through a blend of RPG mechanics and a visual novel foundation, players will navigate Samira’s journey of self-discovery – confronting inner demons and real-life monsters that loom large.

If you’re hesitant to get into the game because you’re unfamiliar with the Werewolf: The Apocalypse universe, don’t worry! Different Tales touts Werewolf: The Apocalypse — Purgatory as being welcoming to both seasoned World of Darkness veterans and newcomers alike. Purgatory includes familiar characters and settings, enhanced with helpful pop-ups for new vocabulary that offer pronunciation tips, definitions, and lore to deepen your immersion.
