The species is found both within the water, and near creeks. It should have the rhizome above the soil, and it will grow epiphytic on rocks and wood. There are around 30 different species in the genera. It thrive in the shadow of other plants, and are in general quite easy. The red colour is most visible on the young leaves. Additional light might increase the red colouration.
