Quite a common species so far on the floodplain, and the colouration is very similar to those found in South Africa. The fish mature at a very small size, but I have found them up to about 80mm in length. Though pretty, they are too aggressive to make good aquarium subjects

    Hi , I have a few of these southern mouth brooders in my aquarium at home I cuaght them in the river here in south africa thye are exactly like the ones in the pic you supplied above, but there is a few that has a black dot on the back fin and has slight darkish stripes running veticaly across the body, are these a difrent tipe and do you know the name,I will take a photo and try to send it if possible.Hope you can help me in identifying them,thanks.
