Placidochromis sp."electra blackfin" Makonde


Placidochromis sp."electra blackfin" is living in intermediate zones from rocks to sand and above the sandbottom and can be found between Manda and Ikombe in the northeastern part of the lake. This variant can be found near Makonde.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 15 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 17 cm, females grow to about 13 cm.


Placidochromis sp."electra blackfin" is a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best in a large tank with a lot of swimming space together with multiple females and other quiet species from similar environements, mbunas are generally too aggresive.


In the lake they are swimming behind big fish which swirl up the sand in which they are searching for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
