Placidochromis sp."blue otter" Domwe Reef

Placidochromis sp."blue otter" can be found between Zimbawe Rock and Tsano Rocks in the southeastern part of Lake Malawi. They are living there in rocky environments which are richly covered with sediment and also in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. This variant can be found near Domwe Reef.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 14 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 15 cm, females grow to about 12 cm.

Placidochromis sp."blue otter" is a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space and enough hiding places. It`s possible to keep them together with peaceful mbunas but it`s necessary there`s enough space for them.

In the lake they are mainly feeding with sediment from the rocks and the sand but they are mainly attracted by whirled up dirt in which they are searching for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
