Chilotilapia rhoadesii "Mbamba Bay"


Chilotilapia rhoadesii is a species which is found in the entire lake in sandy, muddy environments as well in deep as in shallow waters. They are living there in big groups. There are no geographic variants known of this species. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Mbamba Bay.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 30 cm, females grow to about 20 cm.


Chilotilapia rhoadesii is a cichlid which you can best keep with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It is possible to keep this species together with larger mbuna.


In the lake this species is feeding itself with snails.
In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
