Veiltail Goldfish - Tips and Characteristics

Veiltails are very gracious and beautiful fish, also popular amongst goldfish breeders and keepers. It's mostly known for its extra-long, flowing double fin. The Veiltail has been modified from crossbreeding the Ryukin and the Telescope Eye.

The result is a deep-and-round Ryukin shaped body, but without the dorsal 'hump'. The double tail fins are well separated and a quite long dorsal fin. When viewed from the back, the two tail fin loves make it look triangular.

The Veiltail goldfish has three scale types: metallic, solid reddish orange, nacreous which is speckled and matt which is a whitish color. This variety is also available in calico.

Since all goldfish are onmivores, they eat all kinds of food, and favor the veggies, fruit and frozen food.

If you keep them in a well maintained goldfish aquarium, you can expect your Veiltail to reach about 4-6 inches, with a tail of at least 3-4 inches long. Their average lifespan is 10-15 years.

The Veiltail is only recommended to the experienced aquarists. Their delicate fins are subject to injury and bacterial infection.

They are not fast swimmers so when it comes to feeding they will not thrive in competitive aquariums. Also keep them in aquariums without sharp objects or decorations which can easily damage its long beautiful fins.

Mixing

Best tank mates for Veiltail are other twin-tailed goldfish varieties like the Black Moor, Oranda, Fantail, Lionhead, Ryukin or Pearlscale. Please do not mix with faster single-tailed varieties like the Common, Shubunkin or Comet.
